Managerless AFC Fylde secured a vital win in their survival battle as they stunned play-off hopefuls Altrincham 2-1 in the Vanarama National League on Saturday.

Fylde, who parted company with manager Kevin Phillips earlier in the week, started superbly at the J Davidson Stadium with a seventh-minute long-range opener from Gavin Massey.

Lewis Banks levelled for the hosts nine minutes later with a shot that went in off the post but Fylde quickly restored their lead through Nick Haughton on 26 minutes.

Altrincham applied pressure in search of a second equaliser but were unable to find a way past Ben Winterbottom in the Fylde goal.
