Port Vale manager Darren Moore said it was “perfect day” for his team after they capitalised on Bradford’s defeat to move top of the League Two table with a thumping 5-0 win over Bromley.
Youngster Jack Shorrock gave the Valiants an early lead before in-form striker Lorent Tolaj scored a brace either side of substitute George Byers’ goal.
Ryan Croasdale put the icing on the cake late on as Vale, who have now won six of their last seven games, moved three points clear at the summit with just four matches remaining.
And with close rivals Walsall, Doncaster and AFC Wimbledon, currently placed third to fifth respectively, joining Bradford in dropping points, the day could not have gone much better in Moore’s view.
“Overall, it was a real team performance and even the subs that came on played their part,” he said.
“So really, it’s been almost like a perfect day for us today.
“We’ve had a good week to work and we’ve got another good week to work before we go into the Bank Holiday.
“Momentum’s really good at any part of the season, especially at this stage of the season.
“To have the momentum, to get another win and to hear six wins in seven, it’s really, really good.
“What we’ll just do as a group is we’ll come back in on Monday and turn the page, and just work as we’ve been working.
“We’ll keep pushing each other, look at areas of the team that we want to improve, look towards the next opposition and just plan and prepare as we always have done.
“But to gain that (momentum) now at this stage of the season is really good.”
Bromley boss Andy Woodman said it was probably the toughest afternoon he’s had since taking up the job just over four years ago.
“If you start like you started here against a team that’s bang on form and make the mistakes we make to give them a two-goal lead, you’re facing an uphill battle,” he added.
“We made two pretty poor errors. We could have been down more [goals].
“We were poor I thought. I can’t dress it up any other way.
“We were completely off everything we’re about today and on the flip side, they were probably, I wouldn’t say at their best but they were bang on it.
“They obviously saw the result that came through before and this place was bouncing, and we just couldn’t cope.
“Let’s be honest, I felt like we were a non-league team today.
“It’s tough – I can’t really dress it up other than they were way, way better than us and we were way, way off from what we’ve been.”
