Andy Crosby says he will focus on controlling the controllables and urged his players to do the same as they seek to secure their Football League status following Monday’s goalless draw at Barrow.
Three points against Crewe at Prenton Park on Saturday would see Rovers avoid the drop to the National League.
For a spell in the second half, with second-bottom Carlisle a goal down at Accrington and Tranmere on top against their hosts, away fans were dreaming of survival.
Even some home supporters joined in with the cheers, with their Cumbrian rivals – who ended up taking a point away from Stanley thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser – on the brink of relegation.
But cautious Rovers interim boss Crosby said: “It is quite easy to work out what’s happening when the crowd start singing.
“But we cannot influence what Carlisle are doing. We have to take care of ourselves.
“We are not getting information on the bench because I don’t want it to cloud my judgment.
“I want to make judgments on our game on what I am seeing. I don’t want to be influenced by what’s happening elsewhere.
“We can’t control what is happening somewhere else. We keep on with that mantra.”
Barrow’s Wyll Stanway was the busier of the two goalkeepers, with Luke McGee only having one shot of note to deal with in the first half from Kyle Cameron.
Tranmere substitute Connor Jennings blazed over from 12 yards when he should have at least hit the target, and Crosby felt Rovers could have had a penalty when Omari Patrick went down under a challenge from Robbie Gotts.
“The referee’s explanation was Omari was looking for the contact,” he said. “He may well be right but Omari is 100 per cent certain it was a penalty.”
Barrow’s point lifted them up to 14th and meant they have lost only once in 11 outings.
Manager Andy Whing said: “I was quite surprised by their approach. I thought they would be bang at it and we would need to match their energy and enthusiasm.
“But the first half was pretty boring. The second half was better, and they had a 15-minute spell when both crowds cheered when Accrington scored.
“They had a go and nearly scored but our emergency defending was very good. We just didn’t have enough quality in the final third.
“We lacked pace and are a bit predictable at the moment. If we had had more pace coming off the bench in the last two games, we might have turned it around.
“We will look at that in the summer so there are loads of things we have learned going into next season.”
