Andy Woodman was delighted to see his side Bromley end their winless run with a 1-0 victory at MK Dons.
Ben Thompson’s goal on the hour proved enough to settle the Sky Bet League Two contest, after the visitors had missed a penalty – as predicted by Woodman.
Michael Cheek had his spot-kick saved but Bromley ended a run of six games without a win and jumped above the Dons, who have won just twice since Christmas, in the table.
Woodman was pleased his side got the points, despite being proved right with his hunch that Dons’ debutant goalkeeper Connal Trueman would keep the penalty out.
He said: “We didn’t have a lot of the ball at times but they didn’t really hurt us.
“I thought our discipline, shape and way we executed our game plan was bang on.
“It’s not an easy place to come. It’s a big club in comparison to ours, but we went about our job really professionally and got our reward, which was great.
“When the team have lots of the ball in front of us, that suits us. The way we went about it, the discipline and professionalism and work of the group is brilliant.”
Woodman, himself a former goalkeeper, continued: “You ain’t going to believe this…but I turned to the bench and said ‘the keeper will save it’. Keepers on their debuts pull off the saves.
“People will say it was lucky but it was a really good save, he’s dived full stretch but left a foot there on purpose.
“I expected him to save it, weird as it sounds. But that’s what we do – adversity hit us at the point but we went again and got the goal.”
Scott Lindsey was disappointed with his MK Dons outfit, believing that the team lacked something in the final third.
He said, “We huffed and puffed but couldn’t blow the house down and we have to do more to try and win a game, for me.
“I felt we were a little slow in our build play, certainly in the first half, we didn’t create loads, but I just felt we were kind of slow.
“We knew there’d be a deep-to-mid block in terms of their shape and we wanted to travel up the pitch quicker and find passes quicker, and we were just too slow with the build and the longer the game went on at 0-0, the more it helped them.
“In my opinion, we should be winning the game today with what we’ve got on that pitch.
“We had a reset meeting the other day. It was really positive – I spoke, the chairman spoke and it was a really good meeting and the players came out of the meeting really positive.
“I felt we played reasonably well today but I just felt we didn’t show enough intent to win it.”
