Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor believes her side will be “desperate” to earn a good result in their midweek Women’s Super League clash with Leicester at Kingsmeadow.

The Blues dropped points for only the second time in the league this season after Lauren James’ second-half equaliser rescued a point in a 2-2 draw with Brighton at the weekend.

The defending champions maintained their unbeaten WSL record to remain top of the table, five points clear of Manchester United – who beat the Foxes on Sunday – and Bompastor hopes a quick turnaround will help her team.

“That’s always the best when you’re able to play so quickly after a frustrating result,” she said.

“I think we’ll be different playing at home. When you drop two points, the game after will have the right mindset and we will be desperate to get a good result. We’ll be ready for the game on Wednesday.”

Manchester City are also in midweek action as they travel to West Ham and boss Gareth Taylor revealed that Laura Coombs could be in contention.

After earning a hard-fought win over Tottenham on Sunday, Taylor’s side now face a tough test against the Hammers, who were narrowly beaten by Arsenal.

Coombs has been absent since City’s League Cup victory against rivals Manchester United in January, but could feature in London.

When asked about injury news in a press conference, Taylor replied: “As we are and adding Laura Coombs to it as well now, which is great. She’s been out training, so she’ll come into the squad.

“Gives us another potential attacking option and I think that’s a real positive for us.

“She was in good form before she picked up this injury and was really vital for that win against Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.

“Good to have her back in some capacity, but of course we play again on Sunday so we’re anticipating we’re going to need everyone in the squad that we do have.”
