Second-half goals from Ryan Colclough, Ash Palmer and Paddy Madden secured Chesterfield a 3-0 victory over Fleetwood to keep their Sky Bet League Two play-off hopes alive.

Chesterfield’s Michael Olakigbe put a 25-yard effort just wide in the first half and Matty Virtue had a tame effort comfortably claimed by home goalkeeper Ryan Boot.

In time added on at the end of the half, Jenson Metcalfe fired in a curling shot which went just the wrong side of a post.

Colclough struck 10 minutes into the second half as he fired past Jay Lynch after cutting inside, holding off a defender and advancing into the penalty area.

Will Grigg then threatened, firing wide after receiving the ball from Olakigbe, but Boot came to Chesterfield’s rescue with a fine save to deny Mark Helm.

Palmer made it 2-0 in the 69th minute, finding the net with a looping header after getting on the end of a deep free-kick from Liam Mandeville.

Substitute Madden completed the scoring with 12 minutes left, firing into the net from Aribim Pepple’s low cross.
