Cyriel Dessers is “very keen” to remain at Rangers next season amid the prospect of some big changes at Ibrox.

The 30-year-old striker has only won a League Cup since signing from Cremonese on a four-year deal in 2023 and once again the Light Blues, albeit they reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League where they lost to Athletic Bilbao, will finish the domestic season trophy-less.

However, Rangers this week confirmed “productive conversations” with a US-based consortium aiming to complete a takeover of the Ibrox club as well as announcing that Kevin Thelwell would be moving to Govan from Everton as sporting director at the end of the season.

Ahead of the trip to St Mirren on Saturday in the first of five post-split fixtures, Dessers looked ahead to next season and said: “I’m very keen.

“I came here two summers ago with the ambition to fight for trophies, to win trophies.

“Now I’m sitting here, we had two amazing runs in Europe, but we only won a trophy, and I don’t think that’s enough.

“I’m really hungry to win more trophies, more silver at this club. So, for me, I’m very keen.

“But obviously, like I say, there’s going to be a lot happening, but I’m looking forward to that as well.

“I don’t want to say that everything in these last two seasons has been bad domestically either.

“I think last season we had an amazing run in the second half of the season.

“We were fighting until, I think, two games before the league title.

“We got really close at certain moments. We went to three cup finals in a row, so not everything was bad.

“But obviously you want more. Like I said, we went to three cup finals, but you only won one, and that’s not enough at Rangers.

“We are well aware of that. So, yeah, you always want more, and that’s something that I work hard for every day in here in this building, but a lot of people are doing that as well.”

St Mirren have beaten Rangers twice this season and are looking to make it three wins over the Light Blues in the same season for the first time since 1979-80.

Dessers said: “I don’t like that stat. And I think, like I said before, as a team, we have to take some pride in it to set something straight.

“We cannot fully set things straight, of course, because those things happened already, but I think tomorrow we will need to show something to set those things straight.”
