Doncaster boss Grant McCann felt his team had a bit of everything after they moved into the automatic promotion places with a convincing 3-0 win over Tranmere at Prenton Park.
Luke Molyneux’s first hat-trick for the club means that McCann’s team are now second in the League Two table, a point behind leaders Port Vale.
McCann said: “It was a great away performance. Three really good goals from Luke Molyneux and a clean sheet, so you can’t complain.
“We had really good spells where we played some good football, had spells where we had to dig in and there were times when we had to play longer.
“In this league you have to be good at all elements, so you have to have a bit of everything, and today I think we did. It was a really good performance throughout the team.
“I’m really pleased for the boys and really pleased for Luke who notched his first hat-trick in the EFL today and he got a great reception.
“We just keep going and move onto the next game against Colchester on Monday. It’s a short turnaround but we have to make sure we recover well, but players love playing games.
“The fans were absolutely fantastic today and I’m just so glad we could send them home with three goals and three points as to me they are the heart and soul of what we are trying to do.”
Rovers went ahead in the 23rd minute when Molyneux’s free-kick from out wide flew past everybody and straight into the net.
The home side, who had seen manager Andy Crosby sent off just before half-time for knocking the ball away, saw their only chance fall to Josh Hawkes, whose deflected effort was saved by Teddy Sharman-Lowe.
Six minutes after the break the visitors doubled their advantage when Molyneux calmly slotted home from the spot following McGee’s foul on Rob Street in the area.
And the result was put beyond doubt with 14 minutes on the clock when Molyneux reacted well following a McGee save to steer home his and Doncaster’s third.
Following the dismissal of Crosby, Tranmere coach Andy Parkinson said: “We’re disappointed as we’ve been on a good run and in a home game we wanted to play on the front foot.
“We tried to take the game to a really good side who scored three and could have scored more if I’m being honest.
“We lost a little bit of momentum because we didn’t score when we were enjoying a good spell and we were on the end of a 3-0 defeat.
“If I’m being honest, in the first half we didn’t produce the standards we’ve come to expect and in the second half we lost a bit of belief when we went two down.
“Obviously we’ve seen the results today and the gap between us and the bottom two has shortened, but every game is a pressure game so nothing has changed in that respect.
“We’ve got a couple of days to get the players rested and recovered, learn our lessons from today and go to Barrow and try and get a positive result on Monday.”
