Eddie Nketiah and Mohamed Elneny set to leave Arsenal in January

The Gunners have a number of players whose contracts are running down and could leave earlier than expected

The January transfer window has traditionally become a time when Arsenal have filled gaps in the squad or looked to bring in players to cover for those who are injured.

Prices are usually at a premium with clubs aware that it is a crucial period and many teams not keen on letting players leave halfway through the season.

However, there are always squad players who are keen on making their exit, whilst youngsters can be sent out on loan to gain further experience in their early football careers.

Here are five players who could leave the club in January permanently or on loan.

Alex Lacazette

Reported interest in Alexander Lacazette from Roma and Atletico Madrid

The Frenchman's current deal expires in the summer of 2022 and sources close to the player have confirmed that he has no plans to extend his stay beyond that period.

Arsenal were open to selling Lacazette in the summer transfer window but struggled to offload the 30-year-old due to the considerably high salary he's on.

Roma and Atletico Madrid were among the clubs linked with Lacazette, although football.london understands the Gunners did not receive a formal offer from either club.

He could sign a pre-contract with a foreign team from January with a number of clubs circling for the Frenchman's signature.

Eddie Nketiah

Eddie Nketiah could be on his way to West Ham or Crystal Palace

Another player with an expiring contract next summer, Nketiah is keeping his options open ahead of the January transfer window.

There was previously interest from West Ham and Crystal Palace, but so far no concrete offers have arrived for the England youngster.

Bernd Leno

After seeing his goalkeeping spot taken by Aaron Ramsdale, Leno's days at Arsenal are numbered.

The German shot stopper wants to leave Arsenal and January would appear to be the perfect time for a deal to go through.

Sead Kolasinac

Kolasinac almost joined Fenerbahce in the summer

Kolasinac almost joined Fenerbahce in the summer and he is expected to leave when his contract expires in June 2022.

The left back is out of favour at Arsenal and not considered first choice by manager Mikel Arteta.

Mohamed Elneny

Elneny almost left for Turkey in the summer

The Egyptian international was close to leaving the Gunners last summer, with the likes of Besiktas and Galatasaray interested in him.

He will be away at the Africa Cup of Nations in January but with his contract expiring next summer, the Turkish giants are expected to be in for him again.

Folarin Balogun (loan)

Balogun signed a long-term deal last summer

Balogun signed. a new contract last summer and his long-term future remains at Emirates Stadium.

However, with his playing time limited a loan move would prove mutually beneficial for both club and player.
