What the papers say

Ruben Amorim has ‘given initial green light to Manchester United’ in their search for Erik ten Hag’s replacement, according to Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Sporting Lisbon boss is reportedly the front-runner to become the sixth permanent manager at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in May 2013.

Former manager and striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could make a return to the Red Devils as part of Amorim’s backroom staff, according to the Manchester Evening News. Solskjaer, who initially took interim charge at the club in December 2018 before staying on full-time until November 2021, has been out of work since leaving Old Trafford nearly three years ago.

The Sun says former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic has also been heavily considered for the role. Terzic had been linked with AC Milan and West Ham, but he is reported to be holding out for an approach from United.

Outside of United, The Telegraph reports Nottingham Forest have commenced talks with 32-year-old New Zealand striker Chris Wood over a new contract. The new deal is said to be up to two-and-a-half years.
