The points were shared by Grimsby and Chesterfield as they played out a 1-1 draw at Blundell Park.

Grimsby went ahead in the 17th minute as Jason Dadi Svanthorsson headed the ball into the path of Jordan Davies in the box to poke past onrushing goalkeeper Max Thompson.

Cameron McJannet was on his own goal-line to intervene as Bailey Hobson’s header looped over Grimsby goalkeeper Jordan Wright.

The visitors applied all of the attacking pressure after the first goal and equalised as Tom Naylor headed in from a corner in the 33rd minute.

The home side applied some early pressure after the break, with goalscorer Davies having a close-range volley blocked, but chances were at a premium for both sides in a cagey second half.

Svanthorsson had a great chance inside the final five minutes set up by a brilliant bit of skill from left-back Denver Hume, but the former scuffed his effort and Thompson collected.
