Play-off hopefuls Halifax returned to winning ways in the National League with a 2-1 win over third-placed Forest Green.

Going into Tuesday’s clash having drawn their last two fixtures, the Shaymen went ahead in the 12th minute when Max Wright played a ball into Zak Emmerson at the back post and the forward’s shot smashed off the bar and into the net.

Jordon Garrick had an effort blocked for Forest Green before the hosts’ Florent Hoti saw a good shot cleared, then Rovers had a great opportunity when Joe Quigley’s strike rattled the crossbar.

Emmerson went close again minutes after the break and after Charlie McCann had gone close for the visitors they levelled in the 62nd minute when Kyle McAllister finished coolly into the corner.

Hoti then found the eventual winner for Halifax just seven minutes later after smashing an effort across goal, which bounced off the post and into the net.
