Leyton Orient remain on course for the Sky Bet League One play-offs after a 1-0 win which dented Wycombe’s hopes of automatic promotion.

Randell Williams scored the only goal of the game and Orient’s victory, their fifth in succession, leaves them ahead of seventh-placed Reading on goal difference.

Defeat for the Chairboys, though, has handed the initiative to Wrexham, who could seal the second automatic promotion spot with a victory at home to Charlton on Saturday evening.

The defining moment of the game came in the 66th minute when Dan Agyei crossed into the danger area and Williams rose to nod the ball down and into the net.

Fine individual skill by Richard Kone earned him a chance to level but he drove his effort over the crossbar.

Agyei, a constant threat, almost doubled Orient’s lead when finding himself in a one-on-one with the keeper but his shot across the face of the goal narrowly missed the far post.

Visiting goalkeeper Will Norris kept his side in the hunt when tipping a shot from Azeem Abdulai over the bar.
