Goals from Jayden Sweeney and Diallang Jaiyesimi gave Leyton Orient a third win in the space of a week as they beat Wigan 2-0 at The Brick Community Stadium.

The visitors threatened early when Sonny Perkins played in Ollie O’Neill, who found himself clean through on Sam Tickle’s goal but the England Under-21 goalkeeper stood up strong and made a fine save.

Wigan suffered a double blow when Dion Rankine – their best player in the first half – made a promising break, only to be hacked down and he was unable to continue after falling awkwardly.

Orient compounded the home side’s misery by taking the lead four minutes before the interval.

Will Aimson got too tight to Dan Agyei, who found the byline and crossed for Sweeney to slot home from bang in front.

Wigan went close to an equaliser when Steven Sessegnon’s shot was parried but Jensen Weir couldn’t quite get to the rebound.

A mistake from Weir then gave Orient a two-on-one break, which resulted in former Wigan loanee Charlie Kelman firing just off target.

After Wigan substitute Thelo Aasgaard sent a snapshot just wide, the O’s doubled their lead in stoppage time when Jaiyesimi took advantage of a defensive mix-up to roll the ball into an empty net.
