Liverpool celebrated their 20th top-flight title in front of their fans at Anfield after a 5-1 rout of Tottenham.

Manchester City set up an FA Cup final against Crystal Palace with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Wembley.

There was an early scare when Dominic Solanke headed a much-changed Tottenham side ahead at Anfield, but there was no need to worry as Liverpool secured the title – their 20th to move level with Manchester United – with four games to spare.

Goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah, plus an own goal from Destiny Udogie wrapped up a thumping win to underline Liverpool’s supremacy this season.

After their last title, their only one in the Premier League age, was won behind closed doors during the Covid pandemic in 2020, Liverpool and their fans made sure they savoured their first title to be secured at Anfield in 35 years.

“We still had to do it but I think everybody who was inside that bus felt if the fans are with us like they are, then it’s impossible for us to lose this game of football,” Liverpool boss Arne Slot said after fans had lined the streets to welcome the team bus to Anfield.

City’s trophy hopes alive

As Liverpool were taking the Premier League title from them, Manchester City went through to the FA Cup final for a third consecutive season.

Rico Lewis struck inside two minutes and Josko Gvardiol headed in a second to keep alive the possibility that what has been a below-par season can still end with silverware.

City had to ride their luck as Forest struck the frame of the goal three times – two of them from Morgan Gibbs-White – in the second half before getting the message it was not their day.

Crystal Palace await in the final, although Pep Guardiola admitted winning the trophy would not be enough to save City’s season.

“We are a thousand million points behind Liverpool, so come on, this season has not been good,” he said.

Arsenal into Champions League final

Arsenal are into the final of the Women’s Champions League for the first time in 18 years after a stunning 4-1 win away to eight-time champions Lyon gave them a 5-3 aggregate victory.

Lyon gifted Arsenal an early lead with an own goal off goalkeeper Christiane Endler after a defensive mix-up, with further goals from Mariona Caldentey, Alessia Russo and Caitlin Foord.

Arsenal will now head to the final in Lisbon on May 24 to face Barcelona, who beat Chelsea 4-1 at Stamford Bridge to wrap up a lop-sided 8-2 aggregate win.

Goals from Aitana Bonmati, Ewa Pajor, Claudia Pina and Salma Paralluelo settled the contest before Wieke Kaptein’s stoppage-time response.

McTominay sends Napoli clear

Scott McTominay fired Napoli into a three-point lead at the top of Serie A as they capitalised on another defeat for Inter Milan.

McTominay scored both goals in Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Torino, both of them coming before half-time, in a win that sends them clear at the top with four games left to play.

That came hours after Inter, who saw their treble hopes ended by rivals AC Milan in the Coppa Italia in midweek, slumped to consecutive Serie A defeats with a 1-0 loss to Roma.

Matias Soule scored the only goal in the 22nd minute, turning in the rebound after Lorenzo Pellegrini’s strike was saved.

What’s on today?

Leeds can return to the top of the Championship with victory at home to Bristol City.

Burnley put the pressure on with a 5-0 win over QPR on Saturday sending them top, and anything less than victory will make Leeds second favourites to take the title on the final day of season on Saturday.
