Morecambe boss Derek Adams praised his squad strength after their vital Derby-day victory over Accrington.

Second-half goals from Lee Angol and Ged Garner gave the Shrimps a third home win in four games to reduce the gap to four points between themselves and Stanley at the bottom end of the table.

Adams said: “It was a really good performance and I thought we deserved the points.

“We knew this was going to be a really important game for us against a good side and they had some early chances.

“We came through that though and I think we had the better of the game and once we scored the first goal we never really looked in trouble.

“There were a lot of positives for me with the main one being the strength of our bench now. I was able to make five changes and they all played a big part in the win and it was great to see Ged Garner come off the bench and make an impact with a goal that sealed the game.”

Accrington assistant boss Ged Brannan said his side’s lack of a killer instinct up front proved vital.

“We missed some great chances in the first half and that really cost us,” he said. “If we had scored first it would have been a totally different game I’m sure.

“We then gave them an opening goal and that meant they could tighten up at the back and we didn’t really threaten them after that.

“Scoring goals has become a bit of a problem for us at the moment but we will continue to work hard to put that right and get back on track.”
