Mansfield boss Nigel Clough feels the Stags need just one more win to secure safety after they rallied to a 3-3 draw at Rotherham.
Mansfield had trailed 3-1 but two goals in the final 13 minutes from Aden Flint and Jordan Bowery earned them what could be a valuable point in their battle against relegation.
They are now five points above the drop zone but have their destiny in their own hands.
Clough said: “We need it (the point) with the position we are in. It’s another game ticked off but we are as we were.
“I still think we need a win. We have got three out of four at home so we need to win one of those.
“There are maybe two or three more points needed.
“It was an unbelievable game but one I think we should win.
“We had a great start but then conceded two very poor goals. The third one gave us an uphill battle having controlled large parts of the game.
“It was not a bad performance but we have to stop the little things that are costing us goals.
“I always thought if we got a couple of crosses in we could get something from the game.”
Sheffield Wednesday loanee Mallik Wilks had looked like he had inspired a first three points for Matt Hamshaw as the permanent boss of the Millers as he bagged two cracking goals and an assist for Sam Nombe.
Goals were exchanged in the opening 17 minutes with Mansfield forging ahead when George Maris nodded in from Louis Reed’s effort.
Rotherham battled back and Wilks netted in superb style after finding space on the edge of the box and lashing into the top corner.
The home side were starting to cause the visitors more problems and the pressure paid off before the break when Wilks picked out Nombe to tap home at the front post.
Mansfield started the second half strongly and Cameron Dawson had to deny Maris with a low effort.
Wilks then rampaged from inside his own half and smashed the third into the bottom corner emphatically.
Mansfield fired one back with 13 minutes left to play with Flint sliding home.
The visitors were energised by that strike and got on level terms three minutes from time with Bowery on hand to poke in from Caylan Vickers’s header.
Hamshaw said: “I think the takeaway is a huge disappointment but I think when I watch it back and really reflect on what we have been working on, I’ll be pleased.
“Fundamentally it’s about winning games of football. It was an entertaining 3-3, it had a bit of everything, but I think we could have done a lot of things better.
“We are trying to put bricks in place every week and I am getting there step by step. I would like to get there a bit quicker but it is what it is.
“It is a ride that we are on and I am seeing pleasing aspects from people I want to be here but questions marks. That’s my job.
“The nice thing about getting the permanent job now is that I get the opportunity to do that.”
