Fleetwood boss Pete Wild hailed his side’s “solid away performance” after their gave their play-off hopes a shot in the arm with a 2-1 League Two win at Gillingham.
The Cod Army came from behind to end a four-game winless run as John Coleman’s side’s woeful winless run stretched to 13 games.
Elliott Nevitt fired the hosts – who were booed off at the final whistle – in front before his strike was cancelled out by Mark Helm on the stroke of half-time.
Ryan Graydon grabbed his second goal in as many games shortly after half-time before Fleetwood held on for all three points.
Wild said: “What a performance that was. It was a solid away performance, it had everything.
“We were strong on the counter – which you need to be away from home – and we were solid defensively.
“Their goal gave us a kick that we needed.
“It was the perfect response from half-time. We showed good character in the second half.
“We ultimately had to ride our luck in the end. We’ve cleared efforts off the line. That’s one of the things that have been thrown at the group this season that they can’t see out games away from home and we’ve done that.
“I thought that (first goal) was a real bit of quality we’ve been working on over the past few weeks.
“It was a really excellent team goal and one we’ve probably been working on for a few weeks.”
The relegation-threatened Gills remained nine points clear of the relegation zone, but need to start putting wins on the board sooner rather than later.
Coleman’s confidence-zapped charges were once again wasteful in front of goal.
And he said: “Losing at home is never acceptable. I feel sorry for the fans and apologise to the fans. I know it will fall on deaf ears. I know what it feels like to be a fan.
“The boos are there at the end. It’s a little bit hurtful when you hear your own fans singing about you scoring a goal, that’s sad to hear.
“But we killed ourselves. When we took the lead you could see the fear in us, you could see the fear because we haven’t won in ages.
“I don’t know what I’ve got to do to get a win. The amount of opportunities we’ve had to win games in the last month is off the graph.
“I’ve got to take responsibility. Maybe that’s with the substitutions. I thought we were on top when I made the substitutions but they weakened us.
“I’m not on about the players who came on, I just think that they weakened us because we lost our momentum.
“I’ve got to take the blame for that and that’s no disrespect to the players who came on.”
