Reading’s hunt for a Sky Bet League One play-off spot will go to the final day of the season after the Royals beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 at the Memorial Stadium.
Lewis Wing’s eighth league goal of the season after 67 minutes and Chem Campbell’s added-time effort leaves the Pirates staring at relegation after Noel Hunt’s side had to survive a first-half onslaught from the hosts.
Reading had given home supporters an early scare as Harvey Knibbs struck the post following a break by Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan in the opening seconds.
But the Pirates responded with Jack Hunt, James Wilson and Matt Butcher all drawing saves from goalkeeper Joel Pereira in the first period, with Gatlin O’Donkor’s volley requiring the best stop from Pereira on 37 minutes.
Kofi Shaw and Ruel Sotiriou also spurned good openings in a dominant half for Rovers, before Pereira was once again called into action to dive to his right to keep out a Sil Swinkels header from Shaw’s corner on 60 minutes.
Royals captain Wing then scored and Butcher blocked a low shot from the same player 10 minutes later.
Tyler Bindon headed from off the line with three minutes to go before Campbell wrapped the game up in added time.
