MK Dons boss Scott Lindsey was unhappy with his side’s performance despite a dramatic 2-1 win over Harrogate.
Zico Asare’s goal in stoppage time had cancelled out Joe White’s first-half opener but shortly after Town’s equaliser, Alex Gilbey thumped home a fine strike to win the match for the home side.
Despite a first win since New Year’s Day, Lindsey said there was a lot about his side’s performance he did not like and even admitted to not celebrating the winner as he was so annoyed.
He said: “We didn’t play well at all. Really poor.
“We started the game slowly, took too long in the build, we didn’t attack, it was about 25 minutes before we got near their 18-yard box and it was really poor.
“I said some choice words at half-time and the players did as well.
“You could feel (the equaliser) coming even when the board went up for five minutes left. I could feel it and if the truth be known, I didn’t even celebrate Gilbey’s goal because I was so annoyed with the performance.
“Really poor, and I apologise to the fans for watching that. However, it’s three points and at the moment, we probably have to take that because of the run of form and results we’ve had.
“We’ll take it and move on, but we’ve got to be so much better. We had a better performance on Saturday and didn’t win, so it just goes to show football is a funny game.”
Harrogate boss Simon Weaver felt his side’s display showed good development following recent signings, but admitted his disappointment with the result.
He said: “I’m just disappointed for the players. It was a sucker punch of a finish from their lad, Alex Gilbey.
“It was a torrent of attacks from our team against a team that normally dominates an opposition. So it’s mixed emotions.
“I’m disappointed to go on the coach for a long journey home with nothing in the bag, but it’s again our fifth performance on the trot where we do look a very good outfit.
“Twenty-three shots on goal within the 18-yard box suggests we were dominant and a lot more creative now. We’ve put in some resolute displays recently, well-organised with lads that are really willing with a concerted effort throughout, and tonight we combined it with attacking energy and a great passing display.
“We looked like a top League Two team. It’s exciting in a way – we just need to bang a few wins out, steer clear of the bottom two teams and I’m sure there’s a lot to be excited about with the club now with the inclusion of the new signings.”
