Cambridge scored in the first minute of both halves as they coasted to a 4-1 victory over relegation rivals Shrewsbury.
Shayne Lavery set the U’s on their way when Elias Kachunga ran clear on the right and his cross was spilled by goalkeeper Toby Savin, allowing Lavery to fire home.
The lead was doubled on the half hour as Dan Nlundulu led a quick break before feeding Lavery, who had time to shoot beyond Savin.
History repeated itself with another Cambridge goal coming in the opening minute after half-time, with Shrewsbury failing to deal with Kell Watts’ cross, leaving Nlundulu with the simple task of netting from close range.
Kachunga added a fourth in the 53rd minute, with the impressive Nlundulu crossing from the left and Watts nodding it on to Kachunga to head home.
Shrewsbury got a goal back 20 minutes from the end as goalkeeper Vicente Reyes flattened George Lloyd, allowing John Marquis to blast home from the penalty spot, but Cambridge had long secured the points.
