Southend made it four wins from five National League games after a 2-0 win against Fylde at Roots Hall.

Josh Walker broke the deadlock just before the break with a fine individual goal after Southend goalkeeper Nathan Harness and Fylde counterpart Ben Winterbottom had both produced superb saves.

Former Dagenham and Burton striker Walker won possession in midfield and, after a driving run to the edge of the penalty area, arrowed a shot into the bottom corner.

Harness produced another excellent save to deny Fylde’s Joe Riley and preserve the home side’s lead and soon after visiting defender Emeka Obi headed a dangerous 66th-minute cross from Gus Scott-Morriss into his own net as the visitors slipped to a 12th league defeat on the road.
